Leaf collection and mowing
One of our more popular services is leaf collection and bagging. While fallen leaves can be beautiful, they can also be detrimental to your yard. If you only have a few leaves, they’ll compost naturally on the lawn as mulch and fertilizer. But if you have a substantial amount of leaves, they will form a layer that blocks air, water and nutrients from reaching the root system.
In addition, that layer can invite pests or disease and ultimately prevent grass from emerging next spring. That’s where we come in! We’ll use blowers and rakes to quickly and neatly clean your property of leaves. We’ll bag the leaves for you, ready for your next collection day (or, optional removal and disposal of the bags is also an option).
We also recommend that you continue to water and mow your lawn, as needed, throughout the fall season. Our landscaping professionals can recommend the best mowing height, including for the final cut before the winter season.
Lawn fertilization for a healthy lawn
Did you know that the best time to apply fertilizer is in the fall? Lawn fertilizer also known as lawn food, is essential to keep your lawn looking its best and to keep weeds and pests at bay. Timing is very important when applying fertilizer to your lawn, and because it takes time and money, you’ll want to make sure you’re doing it at the optimal time to get the best results.
Applying fertilizer in the fall is recommended as it means it will absorb nutrients and feed your lawn until spring. Depending on the health of your lawn, you may need multiple applications of fertilizer but might not know where to start – luckily that’s where we can help! Aerating and overseeding
Aerating your lawn in fall is recommended as aeration prevents soil from becoming compacted and covered with thatch, a layer of dead and living grass shoots, stems, roots and debris that block air, water and nutrients from reaching your soil. We often recommend pairing lawn aeration with overseeding to promote thick grass cover of your lawn.
Overseeding a lawn after it has been aerated allows an easy channel for seed to penetrate the soil, ensuring optimal seed-to-soil contact. We recommend doing this in fall as it reduces or eliminates competition from summer weeds like crabgrass. Pairing aerating with overseeding gives your grass its best chance of growing thick, healthy and strong.
Leave your fall lawn care to us this season and we promise you’ll be enjoying a thick carpet of luscious green grass next year.
